True. Wookiepedia said the empire kept them in service, though, but I was just throwing out ideas. Because this black hole literally screwed us over hardcore right now.

Yes, it did. You just need to decide what you wish to do and how you want to try to do it. One of the things you need to consider is whether you intend to continue with the mission to the Ringali Nebula or abort it to detour someplace else (returning to StarForge or heading elsewhere). That's the first decision and you have exactly those two choices. You must make that decision before you can make any others. Because if you decide to proceed corewards, then all other considerations you've been wracking yourselves over become moot.

Is guilt tripping Willak a good idea, do you think swrider?

[quote]While Willak is leaving, Killiri tells communications to, "Inform the medical bay that the Alliance will not be providing any aid and have left us despite our aid in securing them an entire convoy of Imperial goods.

He had no power and said probably. We should request to soak with command and have dune charm them.

Yeah, I'm going to have that happen after Dune finishes what he is doing at the moment.

There are two problems. One, Willak is the Alliance's official Observer. He does have influence, quite a lot of it in fact. Dismissing him curtly (no matter how well deserved for his previous behavior aboard the ship) was ... unwise. Second, Willak, in the absence of Vedij, has the means to contact the Alliance. So now Killiri is going to look foolish if he has to call him back to the bridge and have him contact the Alliance, as well as suffer negative consequences for being undiplomatic.

Yeah dismissing him was not quite what I had in mind, but having multiple players is what makes things so interesting sometimes.

Oh, I didn't realize how influential he was. Well, sorry guys, Shado, if the campaign is gonna end here because we can't pirate, have nowhere to go, and pissed off the alliance, just let me know :(

I assumed dissmissing him after he said that there probably wouldn't be any help coming was the correct choice. I had a post typed up with Killiri using nice words and asking him to try and nicely apologizing and saying please, but I decided not to post that because I assumed that wasn't how the military worked, especially since Killiri as a commander is a higher rank than a major.

So those were the wrong assumptions?

Well, yes, Killiri outranks Willak. But Willak is not a member of the crew. You can summon or dismiss him, as a secretary of state IRL can summon or dismiss a foreign ambassador (which is a very close analogy). And since Willak is aboard your ship he must observe appropriate military protocols (such as respect for rank). But he's not in your chain of command, so he cannot be ordered to do things.

And you're equating impaired with being unable to do things. You used to have one diff upgrade. Now you have two. Does this make things harder? Yes. Can't be done? No. And you haven't "pissed off the Alliance". Killiri has lost influence with Willak. Not the same. Did Killiri make his own job harder, if Vedij isn't able to resume his duties? Yes. You just had a learning experience. Does the ship have nowhere to go? Far from it.

Major, BTW, is a rank that's only found in the Alliance in the SpecForces. Take from that what you wish.

Well, with two difficulties we basically won't be winning many opposed rolls with any ship even remotely worth taking, I would think. Unless everyone on board is somehow horrible at their job.

I'm still trying to figure out a plan. We don't have money to fix stuff, but we can't get more money without being fixed, since our ship is not in good condition.

The starfighters and support ships are not damaged and the other ships won't know about our weaknesses. We need to find a target that is sufficiently weak enough that we can most likely take them and try to get them to back down. Another option is a surprise attack. The fighters could easily make a flyby attack badly damaging most any ship before moving out of range after which the Far orbit and Legitimate Business can call for a surrender or finish off a ship. If we need money we need targets.

True. Should we send the legitimate business to secure us hyperdrive replacement parts?

The ship is far from broke, contrary to Doc's erroneous assumption. The silver lining in losing crew is that, even after a 250k per person severance, the ship still has over 10 million in reserve.

As for getting replacement parts, there are two issues you're overlooking, both of which have been mentioned in this thread. First is that you do have a working hyperdrive. It's incredibly slow, but it will get you places. Eventually. Second is that installing parts using your own crew incurs that 2-upgrade penalty that you're so afraid of.

I think we have a dichotomous choice we go on the hunt or we go for medical help. We can not do both effectively and so must choose which we will do.

Once we make that decision all others will follow. I'll leave the choice up to you as Killiri is in command. Going for medical help will help the crew we have, but will also keep us weak when they do start hunting for us.

When we do get back we need to prioritize repairs, restaffing, and finding medical personnel. Having another prize will help with all three of these goals. Legitimate business and dunes shuttle could be used to take the most wounded people to various locations for medical treatment. Spreading them out will not cause as much of an uproar and will faster hyper-drives they may be able to make multiple trips during our journey. But only we we make several stops out of hyperspace to transport people slowing us even further.

So the question is choice 1 or choice 2?

I think we move on with the piracy and hope that extra difficulty doesn't eat us alive. We do absolutely need the new hyperdrive parts, though. That back up hyperdrive is so slow we won't get pretty much anywhere in any reasonable time frame.

I can't tell you. Either way I answer will affect what you do with him. Just like I cannot tell you what's going on with Vedij (whose status Killiri hasn't inquired about, though in fairness you did leave orders to be notified of any developments and you may be assuming that there haven't been and that the medical staff are rather busy, both of which are true). You've also overlooked the fact that Ms. Santiago is still computing a jump plot, and that to your recollection it's never taken her this long before ... if you were even paying attention to her, which you're not.

Oh, she didn't finish calculating it?

FAKE EDIT: Oh, huh, yeah, she never said she finished.

On Dune, well if he finds something he's going to tell Killiri, hence my asking.

Is this the despair we got earlier? I figured it would be used for our next hyperspace jump, hopefully to throw us all into another black hole

So swrider, I think this is everything important we know:
  • Main hyperdrive needs replacement parts
  • our crew complement is down really low and is going to seriously hamper our chances of doing things
  • we will need to wait several hours before safely jumping
  • We have system strain that needs to be dealt with
  • we have injured and dying crewmembers, and no way to really help them
  • We have nowhere to go to do repairs
  • Our time frame is rapidly growing shorter till we literally won't be able to go to any planets for fear of getting attacked on sight due to stealing this ship from the Empire.

To the first point, I think we should send money with Dune and have him purchase hyperdrive replacement parts

To the second, we need to be extra cautious and not fight any ship that could challenge us, because that's almost a sure loss given how much orokos seems to despise us

To the fifth point, oh well, gonna be harder to get any new crew and to keep people on, no one will want to be on a ship that can't even make a simple hyperdrive jump without killing a lot of people

To answer the last point, we are going to continue piracy as soon as possible.

Does that sound right?

EDIT: Oh, and at some point Dune will learn something or nothing
