Sandra's shot burns a hole in the sergeant's helmet, through his forehead, and vaporizes a substantial chunk of his brain killing him. The route back to the Command Center is, for now, clear of enemies.

Sandra let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding as she realized the last sandtrooper was dead. Slowly she holstered the blaster pistol she was still holding and then recovered the other blaster pistol she had dropped. Holstering that blaster pistol as well, she made her way towards the downed troopers to salvage any available equipment.

Sandra brings the heavy blaster rifle, spare clip, and the two frag grenades back to the downed rebel droid. There she places them on the floor, along with her two own stun grenades, to the pile of equipment. "These won't be much use to me until I get the use of my left arm back," thought Sandra, as she goes to assist in BX's repairs.

"That looks pretty bad, let me get you patched up before we look at BX. We've still got a energy generator to deal with..." Joran's last words were muffles as he held medical tape in between his teeth, and got his backpack ready and started tending to Sandra.

Spoiler:

repairs

Postby DeepSpacer » Mon Nov 14, 2016 4:22 pm

V'Jax, being relatively unharmed, makes his way over to where the fallen droid lies. Despite being nearly 2m tall, he's packed his frame with multitudes of items in various storage containers, including a cumbersome tool kit. Normally, such disemboweled droids are sent to the scrapheap. He'll get a second opinion from his human friend, Joran, and assist if repairs can be made.

Kip will pick up a Utility Belt and an extra reload. He'll scout around for other adversaries, reconnoiter the area, and take some time to collect himself, if possible.

"No problem, I'm Joran." Joran introduced himself as he took some of the patches from Sandra.

"Good thing you found these, there's not much I could have done without them..."

Joran knelt down on the ground with the tools from V'Jax's toolkit and did his best to quickly reconnect his servos and get his main processor running, adding makeshift armor repairs where he could...

Remembering a crate marked droid parts over by the YT-2400. Sandra quickly rushes over to where she had seen the crate. Cursing lightly under her breath she drags the crate back over to the downed droid.

BX's chassis made some unpleasant whirring and grinding sounds as BX staggered to his feet.

"Sandra, would you help us to take out the generators? That task has fallen to us and we can use all the help we can get." Joran looked at the rest of the team as he gathered V'Jax's tools and handed them back to him.

"We may not have much time before more stormtroopers overrun us."

"I would be happy to help you take out the generators," says Sandra as she reattaches the stun grenades to her utility belt and goes over and picks up one of the Sand Troopers' blaster rifles.

Once the party reaches the Command and Control center, a quick search of the room reveals the access hatch to the generator. Sandtroopers have pursued the party and are taking cover behind a bend in the corridor just within pistol range.

Spoiler:
The control center has blast doors, which could be sealed using the Han Solo / Luke Skywalker method (shooting the control panel, no skill check needed).

Joran drew his heavy blaster pistol and shot off a quick burst hitting the control panel by the dark.
Sparks burst out of it as the blast doors slammed shut.

"Down the hatch! We've only slowed them down..." Joran shouted as he holstered his weapon and started down the hatch.

"That door's our only way out of here," Joran thought grimly as he descended. They might be going down with the base.

The team finds themselves within a (mostly) natural cave that still bears evidence of the thermal charges used to enlarge it enough to fit the generators. The massive machines are deafening and occupy fully half of the cave. A metal walkway leads to a large computer panel with multiple screens and countless buttons and knobs.

Spoiler:
Disabling the failsafes requires three sequential checks. The first is a ImageImage Mechanics check to access the proper panels and reach the mechanisms. Next, a ImageImageImage Computers check is needed to successfully set all the instruments into overload. Finally, a Image Mechanics check is needed to disable any chance of stopping the countdown. There is only room for one person at the console. If you fail any of the checks, you may try that check again with a penalty of an automatic (and cumulative) threat on each subsequent check (not just that particular check, but for all subsequent checks within the generator cave as you're eating into your available time to escape the base).

Joran squeezed up to the control console and started searching around for the panels he needed to remove in order to complete the operation...he wiped away the sweat from his brow with his sleeve.
"Where is it! I don't have much time left..." Joran worried. A feeling of panic started to build up in his stomach.
"There!" Joran, kneeling on the ground, had found the master control panel. With V'Jax's tools he quickly removed the covering.

With the master control panel open Joran quickly set the generator system for overload.
"That should cause it to go exactly when we need it to - with enough time for us to get out of here and prevent the Empire from getting anything useful from the base. Hopefully we'll take a lot of them with the explosion too."

Joran quickly welded the controls in place. The Imperials would have a tough time stopping the overload now.

Triumph: Accurately control when the overload will occur.

Sandra had followed Joran and the others into the command center and had just taken cover behind a control panel to cover the doorway when Joran shot the doors control panel sealing them inside the room.

Sandra covered the doorway into the command center as the crew opened the hatch leading down to the power generators. Sandra covered the doorway as the rest of the team climbed down the ladder as Joran got to work on overloading the power generators. Sandra scurried over to the hatch and climbed down the ladder and then shortly there after an announcement blared over every annunciator throughout the base: "Critical power overload in progress; 7 minutes 45 seconds to reach minimum safe distance."

Sandra quickly scanned the room looking for any exits other than the one that they had come through.

"Looks like that's our best way out of here. We need to make our way toward the hangar. BX, take point."

It takes the group 4 minutes to navigate their way through the claustrophobic ventilation shafts and reach the exit into the transport hangar. As BX enters the hangar, the base annunciator blares, "Critical power overload in progress; 3 minutes 30 seconds to reach minimum safe distance." The last GR-75 transport is about to take off. Nearby, several Rebel starfighters sit ready but with empty cockpits.

Spoiler:
Players may choose to all board the GR-75 (3 rounds to cross the hangar and run up the ramp), or take one or more of the starfighters (2 X-wings, 2 single-seat Y-wings, 2 Z-95 AF4s) to help fend off the Imperials (also 3 rounds to cross the hangar and climb aboard). All of the fighters have R2 model astromechs and full ordnance loads.

Sandra dashes across the hanger making her way towards one of the T-65B X-wings that are available. Reaching the ship, she quickly stashes the rucksack and blaster rifle in the storage compartment and secures it shut. Then in a single graceful movement she boards the X-wing.

As Joran and Kip both run onto the transport's ramp, the vessel begins lifting on its powerful repulsors. The transport, escorted by a trio of Rebel fighters piloted by the rest of Joran's team, exits the hangar just as the hangar's roof collapses from the detonation of Arda base's power generators. The shockwave slams into the rear shields of all four vessels, violently shaking them as they enter the Gauntlet.

Joran and Kip are both tossed on to a heaving deck, the transport's inertial compensators unable to fully cope with the pilots' maneuvering to avoid scraping the sides of the canyon. On board the fighters, threat indicators light up with blips. Closing in from above and behind (6 o'clock high, in WW2 dogfight parlance), and already within short range, is a mixed partial squadron of Imperial fighters (they've taken losses). Four are identified as standard TIE/LN. Four others ID as the Empire's new TIE/IN. And the lead fighter (a ninth craft), resembles a TIE/IN in panel shape but has enough structural and mass differences to be tagged by the onboard computers as an unknown type.

Spoiler:
I need Cool checks from each fighter pilot — posted in the OOC thread. The transport passengers might as well roll, too (unless you intend to completely sit out these escape festivities).

The terrain of the Gauntlet will impose a Image to all Rebel pilot checks (ImageImage to the Imperials, who are unfamiliar with the terrain). The TIEs are in two minion groups of 4 fighters each. The Imperial squadron leader is not a minion.

The Imperial squadron leader closes to laser cannon range, but surprises the Rebels by launching a pair of proton torpedoes (!) directed at the GR-75 transport. They come dangerously close to hitting the transport but, somehow, manage to skim harmlessly past the port shields to impact into a canyon wall. However, the frantic maneuvering by the transport's pilots to avoid the missiles has put the transport in a vulnerable position relative to the other TIEs coming in hot behind their leader.

Spoiler:
attack w/DP: 3eP+1eA+1eD 1 failure, 5 advantage

Yes, the special TIE being flown by the TIE leader carries missiles. Who knows what other surprises it has?
