Operation Source

OOC discussion of ongoing play

Duh. I completely missed (skipped over) that part of the post. And I went back looking for the post when you quoted it. Only on the third look did I finally spot it. Sheesh. Sorry.

Deception check: 2eP+1eA+1eB+3eD 4 successes, 1 threat, 1 Triumph

Per RAW, that means the mercs will be at -2 WT (or -3 WT if you allow me to apply the Triumph as equal to another 2 successes).

BTW, I think that talent is badly designed (and I'm going to house rule the following change for my own games). It should be +1 setback to all skill checks versus the PCs, not -1 WT. Minus 1 WT is great if the targets are minions, but not so much if they aren't. And the talent is utterly useless unless the only solution to overcoming a problem that the players can devise is combat.

I will take that into consideration. I am fine with that use of the Triumph.

I will post an IC starting the mission when I get the opportunity. It might be a while. Consider this the opportunity to perform any permission prep you want to.

I will try to give everyone duty opportunities on the mission but if you would like to roll for duty we can to see if someone's triggers. I believe the group had about 80 left after ranking up.

The group's total is 81, but when doing Duty you create a table. Rico is 1-22. Tasha is 23-39, Rob is 40-64, and Rath is 65-81. If you roll over 81 no one's Duty triggers, and Tasha gets to use Positive Spin (Improved) to pick one of her companions (I get to choose which one). If you roll within those ranges listed above, that PC triggers. BTW, I'm not supposed to know who's been triggered. Only if no one has.

I can't do any mission prep without having any mission intel to work from. All i know is what factions we'll be facing and what planet we're going to. I have zero info on how the police or the mercs are outfitted, how many police there are and what their typical patrol behavior is or how they treat the locals and (more importantly) how they treat non-locals. Whether the corp has its own private security. And I don't know what else Demarcus has divulged that may relevant to our grabbing his family. Other than being on Nubia, I'm assuming we don't know where they're being held? Continent? City? District? Building? Once we get to Nubia, is it possible to search the local computer net to locate them, if we don't already know where they're at?

I may request some special slicing tools, if we need to do computer work to find them, or to break them out. I'll let you know once you answer the above questions.

When Dr Demarcus was there the police had random foot patrols consiting of one or two police droids or the ocasional organic. There is also the typical police suvalience througout the city (think street cameras/ traffic cameras). The droids carry stun battons. Organics cary blaster pistols. There are specilized units that are better equipped.

The corporation does have their own security and which are basically trained mercenaries and droids. Dr Demarcus family lives in the corporation's private residential area which is guarded by their security. His house also has a basic security system but he has provided the alarm codes (or at least the codes that were used before his recruitment).

He believes his family will be safe for a short period of time. Once the imperials are notified of the coup of the base they may or may not target his family. It depends on if they believe he was involved or if they are just vindictive. If they have not yet been targeted they should be at their residence, which he has provided the location of. If they have been targeted they would most likely have been picked up by local police or imperials and take to the local police holding cells pending a pick up by imperial intelligence... The alliance fears they may just be executed on the spot. The local computer net should provide locations to the corporations residential area and to the local police stations. Hacking into either system may prove difficult as they are both security systems.

Additionally the alliance has identified that the Credits First Mercenary Group has targeted the family for the bout. Last known intelligence shows the group consisting of 4 very skilled personnel.

For this purpose, Rico will request a data breaker (ECRB:186, rarity 6(R)), and a few more dataspikes (SM:50, rarity 3(R)). Oh, and a pair of J57 Cam Droids, to replace the ones we lost during the last mission.

We're also going to return a surplus case of (20x) armor-piercing grenades back to the QM, and request some more Proton Charges (DC:55, rarity 4) to replace the ones we used during the last mission, as well as Baradium Charges (DC:55, rarity 5(R)). One never knows when something might need to be blown up!

I've posted pics for all three male PCs on their sheets. Still looking for a pic that I can live with for Tasha. I'm very very picky about female pics.

[quote="swrider"]None can be seen carrying weapons with the exception of the port security which carry an assortment of stun weapons.

This may be a huge problem. What do we know of the local laws regarding carrying weapons (and wearing combat armor)? I should have requested a protocol droid.

It is not illegal to carry-non restricted weapons but it is uncommon. Armor is treated likewise. If you wear it or carry open weapons you will be drawing attention to yourselves.

Of course. I assumed that. :P

I've edited the four character sheets to add in a Surveyor's Bag for each person (and for both droids), and to replace Rico's heavy clothes with concealing robes (to match the clothes worn by Rob and Rath). Please feel free to burn a DP for this retroactive fix if you don't want to just hand-wave it.

We'll carry our rifles in the aforementioned bags. Rath, Rob, and Tasha are wearing padded armor under robes, while Rico's wearing combat armor under his robes. We'll leave the thermal dets and baradium charges in the ship's smuggling hold. They're all restricted and we don't have licenses for them. I've updated all the online posts to reflect the currently carried gear for each PC and droid.

Rico and Rob are each carrying some restricted slicing and B&E gear. I just hope we're not searched thoroughly (empty all your bags, pockets, etc. and then patted down). This stuff might get us arrested and/or fined, if caught, but thermal dets will get us in real trouble.

Our landing spot is our berth. That's the way it works in Star Wars. We landed where they told us to land. Starports in SW are not like RL airports where you land on some huge open space and then move to someplace else. They're like naval docks. Freighters and liners don't first go to some pier and then relocate to another. You go straight to where you've been assigned.

BTW, had you seen Rogue One you'd already know this. Can't say more without spoilers.

A basic map of the city with an address is a simple check. If you want a more complete map with more restricted information then there will be a check. I just need to know what your goal is. Please remember that a public access terminal will be limited in what it is connected to and therefore how much can be gained.

I want as much information as is accessible through this terminal. Locations of police stations. Locations of Imperial military facilities (barracks, motor pools, HQs, TIE base, shuttles, whatever). Location of the corporate residence. Architectural blueprints for the residence (if it's a tower, which is likely, floor plans for every floor from the roof down the the lowest sub-basement). Current bounty notices. Any information on the Credits First Mercenary Group (specifically, anything that the local police or Imperials may have on their bounty hunters, starting with pictures of them).

difficulty of hack with DP 1 upgrade: 2eC+1eD+1eS 4 failures, 2 threat
ImageImageImageImage

1 success 5 advantages. Nice roll.
You obtain the complete map of the area with locations of all publicly known police and military locations. You access a restricted map which contained additional location of military and police as well as security droid stations and street surveillance locations. You find the corporate residence with the location of the security force headquarters as a basic blue print of the building. You also obtain some basic information about the credits first group. Specifically that they are on planet. They have a ship birthed in the same spaceport as yours and they are registered to carry heavy weapons within the city.

updating DP in sig now.

Is the residence a tower? if not, what is it? How far away is it? (I don't need a number, I just need to know if it's in comfortable walking distance or whether we need to take transport of some sort.) What sort of ship do the mercs have, and where is it relative to ours?

The residence is a tower. The corporation has a few towers and the family lives in the central building. It is 5 kilometers from your location (3.125 miles). That leaves you the option to either walk or to get transportation.
The merc group is flying a ship registered as the "Aurodium Acquisition" its transponder and most of the other information is missing from the system but it is located on landing pad Alpha-Foxtrot-16. judging by the map of the space port it is on an adjacent set of landing pads which seems to host mostly Sil 4 vessels. It is only about 15 minutes to walk casually to the AA only 5 if you take the direct approach.

I'm sorely tempted to try to shipjack that, but if I were them I'd either leave one of their members behind (who could comm the local authorities before we could break in and overpower him/her) or leave some sort of alarm or booby trap. Rob's YGGGG is pretty good to disable such a alarm/trap, but we'd be risking the entire mission if he fails that check. And if there's a live guard in the cockpit we'd be doomed from the start. It's impossible to catch the person unaware unless they're stupid enough to leave the boarding ramp down.

Another issue is that even if we deprive them of their ship they can simply capture the family and either turn them over to the local Imps or take hired (commercial) transport. Nubia is a major planet and has plenty of commercial traffic (like you see Anakin and Padme take from Coruscant to Naboo in AotC).

###

Damn, I thought I'd hit 'submit' on this earlier. Sigh. As for speeders, I just want something cheap and reliable. Since we didn't get a credit stick for expenses in advance, the PCs are having to pay for all these fees out of pocket. But if the choice is having to walk 2 klicks to rent something so as to save walking 3km, it's pointless. I'll walk a few hundred meters. I won't go further. Takes too much time. We'll take public transport if you're making it too difficult to get the Avis-equivalent.
