Successful turned out to be an understatement - it was in the skies that Roda found his own and quickly matured from an immature and spoiled socialite to a profound tactical officer. By 22 BBY when the Clone Wars broke out, he was already a promising Lieutenant with many parties watching his career. It seemed irresponsible to throw that away just as a glorious campaign against Separatists began, so Roda transferred his commission from CDF to the newly fledged Grand Army of the Republic.
By the end of the war, Roda had more praise and awards than he knew what to do with, chief of all were the Corellian Bloodstripes awarded to him personally by Senator Garm Bel Ibis in recognition of his valor. His career in politics seemed like a shoe in, though Roda declined - he had discovered he rather enjoyed commanding star ships and purging the galaxy of dissidents... besides, he was still young, there was plenty of time to settle down and work his way into the Governor's office.
Unfortunately, the years following the end of the Clone Wars were not kind to Roda - without the scale of the ongoing conflict he quickly faded into obscurity and found his fallback career now out of reach, forcing him into a lifelong military commitment. As the years passed Roda grew more and more bitter about missed opportunities, and began to perceive that newer officers who had only known the Empire were being promoted beyond him despite his nearly 20 years of service. His transfer to the Far Orbit came as a shocking kick in the teeth, and the final straw: He had been promised a position on an Imperial Star Destroyer, and was instead shuffled off to some Outer Rim Nebulon-B. He was more than ready to hear Dhas Vedij's words of sedition when they came, and bought into the cause whole cloth... the immediate promotion to Senior Commander and Operations officer didn't hurt either.
