"I concur. They aren't as well-shielded and robust as the heavy Headhunters, despite having better armor. They're probably better as a reserve, where their somewhat greater maneuverability and upgraded speed might provide an edge. When we need more strike fighters I don't think we'll have too much trouble getting additional Headhunters.

"Anything else to discuss?"

"Have Mister Dune provide Mister Pryde with appropriate sims for each of the new fighter models as soon as practicable." Vedij then addresses Pryde, "Commander, have our pilots begin familiarizing themselves with the capabilities of the fighters we'll soon be acquiring, and training on sims as soon as Mister Dune provides them. The pilots are to concentrate on the Headhunters, for escort missions, and on the Scyks, for convoy assault missions.

"That will be all, gentlemen. Dismissed."

Commander Brenko arrives on the bridge hoping to speak to Senior Commander Killiri only to find out the Commander was in a briefing with the Captain. Checking in on the gunnery officers in the tactical room while he waits, Commander Brenko tests them on their knowledge and readiness.

When Commander Killiri exits the captain's ready room, he inquires, "Commander Killiri, sir, may I speak with you a moment."

"Commander, I was hoping get your's and the Captain's approval to have Mr. Dune look for an available assault ship for me to purchase. I believe such a ship would greatly improve our capabilities and provide much needed support to the Far Orbit on upcoming operations. Specifically I had a 4R3 Light Assault Transport in mind, which would allow us to cut through enemy hull plating when necessary."

"Hmmm, given what I can recall of its schematics, and average price, I feel that your money would be better spent on a Gozanti-Class Armed Transport, cheaper and can upgrade to be almost as good for less than the cost of getting the 4R3. However, I will discuss with the Captain first before you are to start asking Mr. Dune to locate a suitable craft."

Killiri heads back to talk to the Captain. Once in the room with the captain, he informs him of what Brenko wants, and his own suggestion.

"Having a Q-ship is an excellent suggestion, Commander. A 'civilian' freighter, upgraded to military specs and sporting heavy armaments, that we can send out on independent runs to take small, weak targets, or employ as a 'pirate' that we can 'rescue' a target from. Perhaps a solo command for you?" he muses. "Don't get too excited, Roda, you have much yet to learn about command and there's no better place for you to learn than on this ship. But you'll also benefit from experience aboard a smaller vessel, and making decisions without having someone looking over your shoulder, so you will get your chance. You have my word on that."

He spends a few seconds entering a string of commands into his console, then puts a few spec sheets up on one of the display monitors. "In addition to a Gozanti, a smart choice by the way, Mister Dune should also look into the availability of other solid, and affordable, Corellian designs such as the YZ-775 medium transport and PB-950 patrol craft. The patrol ships are weak compared to the other two choices, and obsolete for their original purpose, but there are tens of thousands of them in use across the galaxy and I'm sure that one or more might be had quite cheaply. Something to keep in mind, at least. The 775 already mounts a Class One drive and a light turbolaser, so requires fewer upgrades to be combat-effective. But a Gozanti is considerably more cost-effective and I think would prove to be the best choice in the end.

"Mister Dune should focus on securing a Gozanti, keeping open the possibility of PB-950s or YZ-775s, in that order, as a fallback in case the first choice is unattainable. Make it happen, Commander. Dismissed."

"Yes, sir, Captain."

Killiri heads back to the bridge and informs Brenko of the Captain's decision.

"I will inform Mr. Dune that we will need him to look for these ships. Once he is able to start looking, I'll have him inform you so you can inspect any ship he finds before he purchases it, as it is your money that will be spent on it.

Killiri dismisses Brenko and sends a message to Dune informing him of what he needs to do.

Dune heads into the shipyard, his protocol droid in tow. Upon arriving, he looks for Maak. Upon finding him, Dune says, "Mr. Maak, I'm here to look into purchasing the Heavy-95s that you have for sale. I'm also interested in any you can get your hands on that may not be located at this station currently. In addition, do you know of any good pilot simulations for Heavy-95s, or any model of fighter for that matter?"

Spoiler:
Negotiation to find piloting sims: 3eP+1eA+2eB 3 successes, 2 advantage, 1 Triumph
ImageImageImageImageImageImage
correction: 2eD 0 successes, 2 threat

don't know the difficulty, but I rolled pretty poorly.

"So, you want the special Headhunters, eh? All of them, and then some more? I think that I can do that. Plus sims for them? No problem. Anything else? Upgrades perhaps?"

"If you also have sims for Scyks, HLAFs, Y-Wings, and Cloakshapes, those would also be appreciated. As for upgrades, advanced targeting suites for each Headhunter I can get."

"I have sims for Y-wings. I can get sims for Cloakshapes and HLAFs, but it'll take a few weeks as one of my contacts will have to arrange for a trader to bring them here. Targeting arrays are popular, and one of my specialties. Outfitting your Headhunters won't be a problem."

Dune chuckles. "Sorry, a bit scatterbrained today. Ion engines, and proton torpedoes."

After finishing up the dealings with Maak, Dune and his protocol droid head over to the station administration to see if they can negotiate a price for the Y-Wing.

After a brief wait of about a quarter-hour, the station administrator's protocol droid informs Dune, "The Administrator will see you now, sir."

After entering the sanctum, the droid announces, "Lieutenant Dune, Sir." The droid then withdraws and the door closes behind it, leaving Dune alone with the owner and chief official of StarForge Station. The middle-aged Bothan administrator doesn't get up or make any move to shake Dune's hand in the human fashion. He says, "So you've returned. I assume to purchase the Y-wing you inquired about earlier?"

"Yes, I have," Dune says with the nicest tone he can. He then firms his tone, seeking to convey his resolve and not look weak to the Bothan, and says, "I hope I can convince you to part with one of your craft."
