After firing a few extra shots into the disappearing beast, Caiden walked over to check on Telle. Nodding at Joran's suggestion, he agreed with the team medicine: "Agreed. I'll fly her back. We can leave the extra speeder here or tie it to one of ours and tow it to base."

The barrel of the battle droid's rifle tracked the creature as it descended down into the muck. The next few shots from Caiden were enough to convince his processors that the creature was indeed dead, and not just playing out some new trick. With a slight shudder, his limbs unlocked from their firing position and he returned to his gangly self.

"Roger, roger." BX replied with a nod. "I'm going to search a short ways further along." He pointed to indicate the direction, as though there might be a question in the linear tunnel. "I might be able to see an access point and complete this recon operation. I can meet you back at the speeders."

Joran pulled a small device out of his medical backpack and began resuscitating Telle.
Her breathing came back in sputtering gulps.
Satisfied she was breathing again, Joran looked her over assessing her injuries.
He expertly retrieved a stimpack from his medical backpack and applied it to Telle.

"Looks like you'll pull through, ma'am".

"We should get back to the base so I can properly treat her. In any case, we're in no shape to walk around Iziz."

Telle's speech began as an incoherent mess, and evolved into a string of scathing expletives and curses that echoed off the grimy walls around them.

She finally stopped swearing long enough to push herself up to standing. Looking around, she asked, "What...the hell...was that?"

"Obviously." Telle took a deep breath. "What's our situation? Is everybody accounted?" She surveyed those nearby. With her scanner goggles on, it was fairly easy to identify the others.

"It looks like everyone is here. Good...are there any injuries? Anything compromised?" She asked, even as she was aware of a dull throbbing sensation on the back of her head.

"If no one else needs medical attention, we should press on," said Telle, injecting herself with another stimpack and feeling her pain all but disappear.
(Injecting second stimpack for the day, taking care of those last 4 wounds)

"We need to make this trip count for something. So at this point, a bit of recon will go a long way. We don't necessarily need to interact with anybody, but it will be nice to at least know the layout of Iziz.

"Then, after we're done, perhaps we can leave through the front gate,"
she finished firmly, intoning more than a simple suggestion.

Orrin looks at Telle incredulously and appears dumbstruck for several moments. Looking down at his sewage-covered clothing and the condition of his comrades for a few moments, he then speaks:

"So, we're armed tooth-and-nail, covered in sewage, and we're just going to wander around a populated city like normal people? How many mouthfuls of urine did you swallow while you were under? CLEARLY the best thing to do, and most mission-pertinent thing to do, is to leave and come back looking and acting like normal citizens, carry regular sidearms and knives, do nothing to draw attention to ourselves, and have a look around the city."

Slicking back his muck smeared hair, Caiden spoke hesitantly, "Boss, you know I've got your back, but Orrin's got a point. I doubt the local garrison will be thrilled to have us show up looking like this and the less questions they ask the better."

Telle looked hard at the rest of her team and appeared like she was about to continue the argument with Orrin and Caiden for a moment before nodding her head in a sigh. It was easy to tell she wasn't happy with what she was about to say, but acquiescing to a sense of caution over wounded pride. "Alright. You guys are right – let's go back to base and get cleaned up. Today isn't our day. " Glancing over to the droid she was a bit more specific, just in case he missed the order. "You too Be-ex. None of us are in a condition to continue down here."

BX, who had already started edging away from the group in anticipation of his further scouting adventures, returned to the group. In light of Telle's words, he looked over the members of the group, then himself, as if noticing for the first time the amount of gunk and sewer water that had stuck onto everyone. "Roger, Roger." He replied simply, and moved forward, preparing to take point in leading the group in the other direction.

Telle sighed. "And thanks, guys." She said more quietly, "For saving my life."

Back at the base, Caiden allowed himself to be fussed over by Joran. The surly pilot was even grumpier than usual, dissapointed at their failed mission and the sewage covering his clothes. As soon as Joran let him go, Caiden grunted a thanks and headed to the showers. Before he left, he agreed to Telle's request to reconvene at 1800 hours.

After scouring himself clean of the mud, muck, and feces he dressed in the clean, freshly pressed, Imperial NCO uniform left by the former resident of his room. Unfortunately, Caiden was not tall enough to meet Imperial regulations. The uniform hung loosely on him and he was forced to roll the sleeves up to his elbows and the pants to his elbows. Feeling sufficiently clean and chagrined at his childlike appearance, the pilot returned to the briefing area to meet the rest of the team.

As the rest of the team wandered in, he spoke up, "So I have a plan. Fly our shuttle to the city and raze it. No more sewers, sewage, or snake monsters covered in feces. All in favor?"

Joran looked at the typical mess that comes from tending to wounds. His own wounds felt better after having been cleaned and properly treated. The stench of sewer still filled his nose. But it wasn't as strong as before. Some small sign of progress at least.

Hunkered down in a jungle, surrounded by dangerous fauna, waiting Imperial discovery and aggression.
Not exactly what Joran had in mind when he joined up with the Rebellion. But things could be worse. Right?
Besides, such things would make for great tales to tell children and grandchildren. That's what Joran kept in his mind - something to make all of this worth while, some future where the Empire no longer cast it's long shadow.

Joran cleaned up what passed for the medical room and then cleaned himself up and found some clean clothes.

Joran made his way to the briefing area.

...

"Caiden, I think your plan of retribution has some merit," Joran paused hoping his sarcastic tone was taken in the spirit in which it was meant, "But perhaps we'd be best served in the immediate future by doing some laundry and getting a good night's rest. Unless there is some pressing need or mission we have? It's still a bit unclear to me what our task and mission here is..."

Lacking a proper droid maintenance bay, BX subjected himself to a variety of cleaning fluids in the garage. He talked to himself as he cleaned in a tone that quickly approached singing, completely ignoring any organics in the area. Once the offensive material was fully removed and the droid rinsed and dry enough, BX utilized the remaining time to check on 2R over at the monitoring station, then returned back to the hidden base in time for the meeting.

Telle on the other hand, took far more time in the showers then she really needed to cleanse. Yes, the water and harsh imperial-issue soap helped clear her nose and skin of the rotten smell. More importantly now, it gave private time to think. And in that way the experience provided a resetting effect – a break between what had happened and where they could go from here. She plotted out options, thought through situations. By the time she left she felt ready to act again.

It was a good thing, as her team appeared to have all shown up for the pre-dinner meeting she'd called, even the droid. Clad in vastly oversized Imperial clothing, she acquired a cup of caf before sitting down with the guys. She still looked a bit weary, but the light was back in her eyes.

"Alright, guys." She started, "We picked up a valuable lesson today on how not to do things."

Caiden cut in during the pause, causing Telle to chuckle. "As appealing as that might sound, we're still bound by the Alliance's no-harming-civilians clause." She added in a joking tone. BX's hand went to his head as though considering this as a serious issue. Which was exactly what he was doing.

"More seriously," Telle said, getting back on track, "We will need to go back to town. There is no garrison team inbound at this time, which means it's up to us to turn this place into an operational hideout. That's our current mission. Our first goal is a two-parter, we need people and materials. Our three recruits from the local village are enthusiastic, but not good for much right now other than keeping an eye on the base and local area. We're going to need mechanics, medical, technicians to monitor the listening post, even janitorial staff in time. And all those people are going to need food, equipment, and tools." She laughed, "At this point we can't even cloth ourselves properly. Your right though, Jorin, there's no need for most of us to go back out tonight."

She turned to BX. "On the other hand, it'd be good if you headed back and observed the gate. Get an idea of how much attention they pay to people entering, and what kind of people enter."

Though V'Jax, like most Weequay, almost never bathed or showered, this seemed like a good time to make an exception. Though he had spent time on worlds where water was abundant, the habits of a desert people from a desert planet were so deeply ingrained that just letting that much water run was deeply discomforting to him. Of course, it was not quite so discomforting as being covered in sewage, so it had to be done.

V'Jax marched into the base's showers still fully dressed, focusing on letting the water run over the various straps and pockets that made up his clothing, only removing each item when he was reasonably sure it was marginally clean. It was a slow process, especially for one uncomfortable with the running water, but it seemed necessary to keep things serviceable. After getting everything thoroughly cleaned, V'Jax put on a pair of pants from one of the lockers and hung his garments to dry.

Shirtless but clean, V'Jax entered the briefing room and took up his usual at-ease stance.

Joran spoke up, "Pardon my ignorance, do we have the funds to buy the materials we need? Do we have much to barter with? Or do we need to recruit a benefactor in Iziz? Or do we need to acquire what we need some other way?"

Joran continued, "Technicians, mechanics and medical staff may be difficult to find out here ... but we could train people. Maybe we could even set up a front homestead or business to disguise our efforts in Iziz or one of the villages?"

Something nagging at the back of Joran's mind pushed him to keep talking, "And then there's the matter of the Imperial patrol we ... uh, dealt with. It's only a matter of time before the Empire returns to find out what happened to them..." Joran left the unspoken threat and sense of doom hang in the air.

"That pretty much hits every nail on the head, Joran." Telle agreed. "At this moment, we're entirely on our own – which means what we have to trade with is what we've got in the base itself. Half of which we need to hang on to if we want this place to ever be operational, the other half which is highly illegal and would require finding safe contacts in the local black market. We could do it but it'd be a slow, careful process. Not to mention it'd require all of us to get at least temporary jobs to support ourselves."

Telle sighed. She didn't really think anyone would be up for that kind of long term build, not now. "Our better option, if we want the Alliance to be able to make good use of this base sometime this year, is to locate and make contact with existing rebel sympathizers in the city of Iziz. With any luck, they have some resources and have already established all the contacts we would need. Not to mention they're the ones that would be most logical to take over base operations once they become a real cell and we move on."

"The patrol is a more difficult problem. Right now we're protected by the fact we're sitting in a base that isn't supposed to exist. According to intel, this base was built under wraps to spy on an Admiral. That means if anyone learns about this little post in the process of it getting cleaned up, they've got good blackmail material. Which means the previous owner is going to be hesitant to bring in more forces then he has to, particularly if those forces are under the control of said admiral. Our goal, then, is to convince the Moff that it's more in his interest to bury the project and ignore us then it is to bring in sufficient force to wipe us out."

"Rebels are pretty high priority, and if found out could be on someone else's list. Plus taking out a fully staffed rebel installation might just be worth enough to whitewash what the base was doing there in the first place. Therefore, our best bet is to convince him we're not rebels. I'm thinking smugglers. A well defended smuggler's warehouse and den, potentially with Hutt or Black Sun connections, should be enough to convince him it's better for him to just let us be then root us out. "

Joran nodded his head. "None of this was on the poster when I signed up at the recruiter's office," Joran joked before turning serious.

"We have made some contact with sympathetic villagers outside of Iziz, correct? Can they point us to anyone they know of inside Iziz? If not, then may I suggest that we, at some point, scout out Iziz? See where the Empire is coming down hard - which neighborhoods or businesses or even nobles have found particular disfavor with the Empire?"

"That a good idea, guys." Telle noted. "We're not hard up against the clock, other than the typical ever-present threat from the Empire, so we can take the time to get a little more information before we head back to town. Let's plan on the us spending tomorrow at Darrastead helping out and generally being conversational. BX is the only one I'd consider a conversational liability, so he can watch over the base while we're out."

Telle paused for a moment. "If there's nothing else, let's call it a night. We'll meet up for breakfast at, say, oh-nine-hundred?"

Joran nods.

"Good night."

Joran makes one last check on his gear before going to bed, making sure that everything is in order before he wakes up in the morning.

V'Jax nods. "Yes Ma'am."

With that, he hurries out of the briefing room to continue getting his clothing and equipment dry and properly sanitized.
